The Church Row Neighborhood Plan
Working to Create a Shared Vision for the Church Row Neighborhood
The City of Waterloo has partnered with The University of Iowa's School of Planning and Public Affairs (SPPA) and the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC) to complete a Neighborhood Plan for Church Row. The Neighborhood Plan will establish a broadly supported and achievable vision for the neighborhood, helping foster a more safe, attractive, and welcoming area that provides opportunities for healthy and affordable living, economic development, and a high quality of life for residents.
Who We Are
The Church Row Neighborhood Planning Team is made up of five Urban and Regional Planning Graduate Students from the University of Iowa's School of Planning and Public Affairs (SPPA). The team is supported by the staff at the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities, faculty from the SPPA, and partners at the City of Waterloo.
Purpose of the Plan
Church Row is a historical core of the city of Waterloo with a rich history and diversity of people that call Waterloo their home. The area has fallen into neglect and isolation as it faces issues pertaining to blight. The recommendations found in the plan will aim to build on the strengths of the neighborhood and address the needs, aspirations, and collective vision of Church Row residents and its stakeholders. The Church Row Neighborhood Plan shall create a widely supported and pragmatic vision for the neighborhood that places the residents and relevant stakeholders of the neighborhood at the heart of the plan with goals, implementation strategies, and resources to enhance the neighborhood.
